I want to make you aware of pending legislation that will affect you personally as a public employee.
The Legislature is considering introducing a bill that will change the composition of the Public Retirees Retirement System (PERS) board by eliminating one representative of retirees and one representative of public employees and replace these with one member appointed by the Governor and one member appointed by the Lt. Governor. These appointees will not be public employees.
The bill will ALSO freeze the Cost of Living Adjustment (commonly referred to as the “13th check”) for three years.
I have been told that the leadership of the House and the Senate are counting votes and will only introduce the PERS bill if they think there are enough votes to pass. If this issue concerns you, I believe it is important for you to contact your state Legislators and let them know your thoughts.
