Are you there @Oprah? It's me Toby. Letter from a dad v #autism

Dear Oprah,
I had a bit of a brainstorm this morning with Addison. Addison as you know has autism and likes to have "squeezes" to help her calm down. The deep compression on her legs and arms is sensory thing that she needs to help calm her self. I'm super grateful that she knows when she needs these and is able to ask for them. This morning I was sitting on the couch and she asked for squeezes. While hugging her I was able to listen to her heart beat. She wasn't excited or active but her heart was beating so fast! Hearing just how fast it was while she was at rest made me realize just how badly she needs those deep compression squeezes. This brain blast was no surprise to my wife. She has her doctorate in Google Autism like most special needs moms. But to me it was a big deal. Oprah, I'm sure if you went up to someone you know with autism and hugged them they wouldn't mind but I don't recommend most people to try it out. You could end up getting popped or on the wrong end of an angry autism mom. Just take my word for it. Kids with autism are so keyed up and most of the time are just doing the best they can to make sense of it all. Thanks for listening Oprah.
